THYT One-Act Festival

The culmination of the Total Theatre Experience

Beginning in September of each season, our Devised Theatre participants begin the process of writing that season's installment of our THYT One-Act Festival. From writing, directing, performing, designing, and stage managing, this festival is 100% participant lead.

1st Annual THYT One-Act Festival

Planned for June 2020, the 1st Annual THYT One-Act Festival needed to be presented remotely. We stopped in person rehearsals in March 2020, and needed to cancel our planned one-acts, and pivot into something that we could be flexible with. So, we chose to do a series of short films all inspired by William Shakespeare, and we created the Shakespeare Short Film Festival. You can see the films below:

Verona MMO Fight
The Midsummer Players
The Opening of Macbeth
Life Lessons From Shakespeare

2nd Annual THYT One-Act Festival

In June 2021 we again intended to present our festival for a live audience, but it wasn't meant to be. Once again we pivoted, and created The 2nd Annual THYT One-Act Festival as an online event that streamed in July 2020. Our licensing agreement for those short films prevent us from showing them here, but we can tell you that we had a tremendous amount of fun making them on Zoom.

3rd Annual THYT One-Act Festival

From June 9-18, 2022 at the Red Deer Memorial Centre in the Nickle Studio, we presented the first live edition of our festival. While some might consider this the first installment, we need to honour the work of the kids/teens that pivoted so well the previous two seasons, so this is our 3rd Annual THYT One-Act Festival.

Starting in January, both age groups began the process of writing three theatre pieces from scratch. This is a new way of creating theatre at THYT, and a process that was embraced by all. Our participants were a true ensemble, working together in all areas of theatre, to create some really funny and meaningful pieces.
